Alhamdulillah! With peace and security, the trees of elections have taken root. The spring season has begun, and the fruits and flowers are starting to bloom on the branches of trees. In the gardens of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz is making her presence felt, while Murad Ali Shah is seen in the flowerbeds of Sindh. The vibrancy of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also be visible in the coming days. The focus is now on governance, the Senate, and ultimately the President’s House, with the aim of planting strong and tall trees.
After all this, the real test for the rulers will begin on how they plan programs to put ghee and sugar in the mouths of the 240 million citizens, and what measures are taken to turn every home into a garden of flowers. The people are aware that this will not happen overnight. The days will pass, but announcements and actions based on truth and justice need to be shown.
When the first female Chief Minister of the largest province of Pakistan begins to implement her policies, it will set an example of happiness. We pray for such examples. We also pray for our security agencies, the guardians of peace. The election results indicate the signs of economic stability in Pakistan. It is clear that the roots of stability have taken hold during the formation of the government.
Allah says, “These days keep coming; we keep changing them among people.” (Al-Imran: 140) February 26, 2024, was one such changing day. The Chief Minister of Punjab had taken the oath. Standing for her speech, there was an image of her late mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, and her father, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. When Kulsoom Nawaz was seriously ill, some people made jokes about her illness. She passed away in the same illness, and when Nawaz Sharif became ill, jokes were made about his illness too.
On this changed day, during the oath-taking ceremony, Maryam Nawaz brought her father with her and brought a picture of her late mother. She was emphasizing the respect and honor of parents for everyone. Our culture is based on the noble character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who, even when his staunchest enemy, Abdullah bin Abi, fell seriously ill, visited him to inquire about his health.
Yes, we need to change ourselves. We must embrace our culture and politeness. This will elevate our politics to a position of honor and respect. I believe that Maryam Nawaz has symbolized the change in practical terms by emphasizing the respect and honor of parents. We should consider the respect and honor of every relationship. For such ceremonies, I also received an invitation, but at that time, I was about 300 kilometers away from Lahore, making attendance impossible. I am thankful to Mian Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, and the Chief Secretary for remembering me.
When Maryam Nawaz was delivering her speech at the Governor House, an incident occurred in the Icchra Bazaar in Lahore. A woman, walking with her husband in the market, caught the attention of some people. More people joined them. The frightened couple took refuge in a small food point. The woman was wearing attire similar to Arab women in Gulf countries. There was some writing in Arabic on her clothes, unrelated to any sacred phrase. Without investigation, the onlookers misunderstood it as a Quranic verse and attempted to create chaos. About 300 people gathered.
This woman was extremely frightened, and someone said, “She is sitting here.” Another person said, “Make her stand.” Yes, this sentence means that the person should catch her and make her stand. Allah’s refuge! These are the people who misuse the name of religion. Some were saying something, and some were saying something else. Blessed are you, ASP Shehr Bano Naqvi, that you reached the scene and saved the oppressed woman. In response to this incident, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, while praising the woman police officer, announced giving her the “Police Medal for Bravery.” In the meantime, she requested that all those who participated in the aforementioned harassment should be arrested.
The sad and regretful thing is that despite the clear truth, forgiveness was sought from the innocent woman. Video of her was circulated worldwide, tarnishing the country’s image, suggesting that neither minorities are safe here nor women who walk in the markets and make purchases. This not only defames our religion, which is a religion of complete peace, but also disgraces our distinguished scholars who are extremely soft-spoken and follow the merciful character of the Prophet of the two worlds (PBUH), striving to make society peaceful.
My opinion is that the central figures responsible for the mentioned chaos should also be brought to justice to end the country’s defamation. Then it should be publicized who these troublemakers were. This way, by taking the law into our own hands and firing at the crowd, whether it is an attack on the police station or on police officers, this permission should be granted. It is essential to have the authority to shoot at these attackers, whether they attack the police station or the police officers. Along with this, it is also crucial to instill in the people the awareness to make decisions about the accused themselves, challenging the government’s authority. Now that forgiveness has been sought from the innocent woman, the video of which has gone viral, it is necessary to compensate for the defamation of the country and fulfill the damages from the properties of those mentioned individuals. Remember, if this happens, those who take up arms and create chaos will come after a long time, and our country will continue to be defamed.
The police department, where many people are defamed because of a few, is not only infamous due to the past but also has honorable and honest officers and young people. In the past, when the police fired at the crowd during an attack, cases were registered against the officers. The result was that the police officers were martyred by the hands of the attackers, but they did not fire. Punjab Chief Minister should review this and allow aerial firing in such a situation where the life of an innocent is in danger from a mob.
With aerial firing by the police, even if it is not dispersed among the people and attackers, whether they are attacking a police station or police officers, permission should be granted to fire on these attackers. Such actions will make us certain that we will all love our dear homeland, and it will continue to thrive.
